The Photographer

My name is Marlon Pereira and welcome to my site! I was born, raised, and live in sunny Miami, Florida. As a Physical Therapist, I enjoy the science and art of healing the body, but for many years, I’ve had a second love –
the Ocean. Since childhood, I’ve held a fascination with the sea’s beauty, color, and life, but like many people, I
was afraid of what lurked beneath the surface. As a teenager, I took a snorkeling trip in the Florida Keys and found the courage to put on a mask and take a peek. Stunned by the beauty of what I experienced, I realized
that I wanted to explore more of the underwater world and began scuba diving several years later.

As a diver, I would often become frustrated by my inability to share the beauty of what I was seeing with friends and family. As a result, I decided to purchase a small underwater camera. Although my first photographs were absolutely pathetic, I was hooked. After saving up for a more expensive system, I was still disappointed with the
quality of my photos. At this point, it hadn’t really even occurred to me that I had never read a book or taken a course in photography. Through years of trial and error, my photos slowly began to improve and I’ve since realized that photography has very little to do with the camera, which is simply a tool. Rather, it’s the photographer that makes a great photo.

Though I still shoot mainly for my own pleasure, I began to get inquiries regarding my photos after hanging them at my workplace. Over the years, my hobby has slowly begun to grow. I have been blessed with the opportunity to visit several destinations throughout the Caribbean and Pacific. I have come to appreciate how fragile the ocean is and how essential it is that we protect it. The ocean is our most precious resource. Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you enjoy viewing the underwater world through my lens.
